3.3.3 Glycolysis

Glycolysis engage anytime whether or not oxygen is present

Investment: 2ATP

Pay off: (using substrate level phosphorylation)

$$ 4ATP + 2NADH + 2H^+ $$

It spends Glucose, 2ATP and 2NAD+

Produces 2pyruvate, 4ATP and 2NADH

When pyruvate enters the mitochondria (oxygen is present), it is turned into Acetyl CoA under the effect of coenzyme A, producing 2NADH and carbon dioxide. This process is called the Oxidation of pyruvate

3.3.4 The citric acid cycle (Krebs cycle)

Produces

$$ 6NADH+2FADH_2+CO_2 $$

This process separate energy into energy that can be used by the body

Total function:

$$ 2\text{Acetyl-CoA} \rightarrow 4\text{CO}_2 + 6\text{NADH} + 2\text{FADH}_2 + 2\text{ATP} $$

It uses 1Acetyl CoA, 3NAD+, 1FAD and 1ADP

3.3.5 Oxidative phosphorylation

ETC: electron transport chain

There are four protein complexes and the electron is given to oxygen at last
